Buy GW or Wait
I'm in a bind here. Should I buy guild wars now, or should I just wait for guild wars 2? Does GW feel too dated at this point, or not? I have been trying to decide if I should get this, dead space 2, or crysis 2 for the pc and I'm having a hard time deciding. Thanks in advance.

Well, coming back from a 4 year break, I find that GW still has its appeal. The game evolved and the devs seem to still care a lot about the game, adding new features and all even to this day.
So, yeah, my opinion is a little biased since we are on a GW forum, but I'd say go for it. You'll get more bang for your buck than with those two other games combined -- by far! |

Thanks for the reply. You don't think the game will feel that dated if I start playing six years after release?

I would get Guild Wars, it still has players and appeal. and doing do and unlocking things through you HoM will get you some in-game gw2 items. also you'll understand the storyline better.

I do not know what the other games you mentioned are like but I do know that GW is still a great game. I would give it try.

Guild Wars is dead. there's is 0 multiplayer unless you get people from an ally to go with you, or unless you're doing some speed clear stuff.
now with 7 hero parties, you don't need humans anymore, so guild wars is basically a solo player game with an online option to show strangers all the 'cool' gear you collected. (full obsidian with chaos gloves, tormented shield + voltaic spear, and bone dragon staff). wait for Guild Wars 2. |

I would buy Guild Wars as well. If you need help or don't like playing alone join an active guild/alliance. Many guilds are still recruiting and being formed for that matter. Check out the forums for guilds that are recruiting.

Just be aware that game-play wise GW2 and GW has pretty much nothing in common.

If I was in your place I would be thinking of two things.
Firstly when is GW2 likely to come out and second if I buy gw1 will I have enough money saved to get gw2 on release. I have a feeling gw2 will be here before Christmas this year possibly November. If getting gw1 now and gw2 late this year isnt a problem then go for it its still a very good game. Otherwise I would play one of my old games and wait for gw2. |

Just to expand on what majoho already said: The only preparation for GW 2 you will get is the lore. You can easily read up on that without buying the game.
And, you can get points for the Hall of Monuments in GW 1 Eye of the North that will get you some unique armor, weapons, pets, etc. The only value of these is that they show you are a "vet." The glory of being a vet ought to last for about two days! lol! The game play of GW 2 will be radically different from GW 1, more resembling a fps. Thus the two games you mention might be better preparation for the GW 2 combat than GW 1 by far. GW 1 is a very large game, a very long game, a very complex game, a very geek game. You cannot go wrong with GW 1. But what do you really want most? What are you looking for from you next game? Only you can answer that. |
